Exhibitions Announcement: Dickens, Fine Press Books, Persia and Beyond
Tomorrow I leave for Melbourne to attend the 2012 Australia and New Zealand Rare Books Summer School (specifically a course on printed ephemera being taught by Wallace Kirsop).
Amidst the packing and final planning I have some time for a short post promoting one current and two forthcoming exhibitions:
~ The Dunedin Public Library launched its latest Reed Gallery exhibition 'Chapter One. I Am Born: 200 Years of Charles Dickens' earlier this evening. It was a very joyous and well attended event. I was particularly glad to meet some members of the Christchurch Dickens Fellowship who travelled to Dunedin for the library exhibition and the Dickens exhibition hosted by the Dunedin Public Art Gallery (scroll down the DPAG page for information).
~ Next month the University of Melbourne is launching its exhibition 'Adventure & Art: The Fine Press Book from 1450 to 2011' curated by fine-press printer and poet Alan Loney. A corresponding symposium is scheduled.
~ Also in March the State Library of Victoria will launch 'Love and Devotion: From Persia and Beyond'. The exhibition features 13C to 18C illustrated manuscripts from Persia, Ottoman Turkey and Mughal India on loan from the Bodleian Libraries. An after hours reception and two-day conference are planned.
